from a casual invitation to a lifelong passion: Sloan family goes all in for Children’s Health℠
AWESTRUCK FROM THE START, FRANK AND SHIRLEY SLOAN DIDN’T HESITATE TO SUPPORT THE HOSPITAL SYSTEM’S PLANS FOR A NEW DALLAS PEDIATRIC CAMPUS.
Frank Sloan will talk about Children’s Health to anyone who will listen.
He first began learning about the work being done inside the hospital system’s walls after a couple of friends invited him to a luncheon. Frank was instantly hooked.
He was amazed to learn about physicians’ developments to care for some of the most complex conditions; the hospital system’s support of innovative, life-changing research; and the world-class care available for children and their families in North Texas and beyond.
“It left a real impression,” he said.
Frank couldn’t wait to tell Shirley, his wife, all about what he’d spent the day learning.
“What happens behind those hospital walls is phenomenal. These physicians and researchers work so hard,” Shirley said. “Frank and I have been very impressed with Children’s Health from the beginning.”
Frank, determined to deepen his involvement, joined the Children's Medical Center Foundation Board. As a financial advisor, he regularly encourages clients to support Children’s Health and often brings up the work being done at the hospital system during conversations with friends and family.
More than 20 years later, the Sloans’ unwavering support for Children’s Health remains firm.
In 2024, Frank and Shirley committed $1 million to the hospital system’s new Dallas pediatric campus that is being built in collaboration with UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Children’s Health and UT Southwestern broke ground on the $5 billion new hospital in October. Set to replace the existing Children’s Health Medical Center Dallas, the campus will expand the system’s ability to provide comprehensive care for the community’s youngest while meeting the demand of North Texas’ rapidly growing pediatric population.
The couple’s storied relationship with Children’s Health made it an easy decision.
“It’s exciting to help children for generations to come,” Frank said. “It’s a big deal and it’s going to help so many children and their families.”
The Sloans’ hopes for the new pediatric campus are big, but they’re certain it’ll exceed their expectations.
“North Texas is growing so rapidly and to have a world-class hospital for kids in our city is huge for Dallas,” Shirley said. “We have been blessed, and blessings should be shared.”
